Design Club will be kicking off a three day Motion Workshop with animator Peter Clark.

Earn extra credit at the end of the quarter applied to your final grade, by attending and staying for the duration of the opening presentation. I will be there with a sign-in sheet.

Full Workshop Schedule:
Thurs, Oct 21 from 7-9 PM in Miller Hall 138 – presentation and starting group projects.
Fri, October 22, is completely open for your group to create and animate.
Sat, October 23, we will be critiquing the final pieces in the afternoon.

No previous design/animation experience is necessary, and the event is open to everyone. Signups will close early next week.

How to Animate an Illustrator Scene
Goes over how to set up and import the Illustrator file, move anchor points and animate assets, convert to shape layer, puppet pin tool, and parenting

How to import Illustrator/Photoshop files Step-by-Step

• File > Import > Composition – Retain Layer Sizes. This will import the file keeping all the layers the correct size and not the size of the entire composition for each layer.
• A composition and a folder of your layers are created and added to your Project Panel.
• You can double-click the new Illustrator composition to open in the timeline or drag it into your existing composition and it will be treated as a nested group essentially. If you dragged it, you can double click that comp to see the nested layers.
• To see the best quality of the layer, you need to click the continuous rasterization starburst icon * in the timeline next to the appropriate layers. You also need to make sure there is a solid diagonal line icon / for the best quality column.

1. Research/Inspo – find other examples of social media animations, voting inspo, or other general look-and-feel/style inspo and label why you like them
2. Rough Storyboard – demonstrates compositions, narrative, transitions, and pacing
3. Style Frame – demonstrates graphics style, typeface choice, and colors

• At least half of your animation uploaded to Vimeo or YouTube and linked to Exercise5 Slack Channel
• Comment on at least 2-3 other classmates’ posts. Prioritize commenting on ones that don’t yet have comments. This goes towards your overall participation grade in this course. Please leave constructive criticism –  “liking” everything won’t help people improve. (:

• Upload final Exercise 5 mp4 to Vimeo or YouTube and link to Exercise5 Slack Channel.
  Should be 1080 x 1920px (vertical), mp4, and 10-15 seconds total.  

• To export with the vertical dimensions using Adobe Media Encoder, instead of choosing the Vimeo or YouTube preset. Click on the dropdown arrow under “Preset” in the “Queue” panel and choose “Match Source – High bitrate.” Continue to use H.264 as your Format.
