Exercise 1 (no grade expectation, but still needs to be completed for participation.)

Animated GIF: create a short animated gif learning about frame-by-frame animation, frame rate, shooting ratio, and looping. also focus on simple storytelling and composition.

Exercises 2-3  (20%)   

Intro to AE/Principles of Motion: create short simple shape animations using After Effects learning about the animating transformation properties and using the graph editor for smoother and more natural motion. also focus on the classic principles of animation and how they pertain to motion design.

Music Interpretation: create short animation synced to music learning about basic shape manipulation, audio/visual sync, and pre-composing. also focus on rhythm and transitioning as well as design principles and visual expression.

Exercises 4-5 (20%) 

Kinetic Type: create a short kinetic type animation learning how to work with text in After Effects, masking, and effects. also focus on typography, legibility, and timing.

Social Media Post: create a social media post animating vector files and type learning how to integrate illustrator with After Effects and use parenting or puppet pin to possibly rig characters or graphics. also focus on communication, story, type, and composition.

Exercises 6-7 (25%)

Moving Poster: create an animated poster learning how to integrate photoshop with After Effects and explore the z-axis and camera. also focus on communication, story, composition, and space.

Mini Music Video: edit a short video montage from found footage using Premiere and learn how to composite different effects with your footage using After Effects. also focus on storytelling, editing, pacing, transitioning, communication, and as always composition.

Final Project / Process Book (25%)

Title Sequence: pitch a longer form piece using a combination of techniques you learned throughout the quarter or advanced techniques you discover independently. demonstrate the skills you have learned, successful storytelling, and design. also focus on working with a longer duration as well as creating a process book.
